Quotes of the Moment
I hope that someday soon the labels and RIAA begin to understand that services like Imeem and Pandora are providing free marketing for their products, not stealing their intellectual property.
~Michael Arrington (TechCrunch). Both large music rights holders and large telecommunications carriers are threatened by market upheaval brought on by digital technology. We have no responsibility to help them protect their business. If they can’t adjust their business models to perpetuate themselves, let them go the way of the major sheet music publishers and telegraph operators. That is the American way.
~John V (bits.blogs.nytimes.com)
ok, so out of this entire playlist, only one song ("where to draw the line" by f.a.t.a.) is full-length when embedded. I'm getting really sick of these stupid restrictions -- it's been getting progressively worse for months, but the site offically sucks now. Time Warner has made Imeem its prison bitch, and of course now the other major labels are turning it into a veritable gang bang. and now you're not even allowed to use the playlist feature while logged in if you have ad-blocking/antivirus software running! wtf? that's just wrong. I'm going somewhere else -- a site that hasn't been sued and crippled by self-righteous multimillionaire executives yet.
update 3/2/08: um, yeah.... the beach boys, the audition, mazzy star, 3 dog night, tommy tutone, sneaker pimps, dashboard, nirvana, black ♥ procession, moz and joy division are all playing normally now for some reason. yay? no complaints, but I'm kind of confused about what's happening here.

The more I research, the more corrupt and shady and manipulative the microsoft megacorp is proving itself to be. And I absolutely HATE vista, which came preinstalled on my laptop. This overloaded, buggy, DRM-laden, incompatible-with-everything, crapware-saddled joke of an OS has been nothing but errors and headaches from the very beginning. And I highly resent having my activities remotely monitored against my will with what is essentially a built-in rootkit, being forced to submit to their invasive, police-state effort to "combat piracy." anyway, the point is, I don't want to give these people any more of my money and I want to be able to have a choice in what is installed on my computer. I thought about getting a mac, but honestly, apple is almost as bad as microsoft as far as business practices go.
The biggest tech nerds are all about Linux. Apparantly that's what the government uses, which says alot about its security.... and it's free. Anybody else had it with the windows/mac two-party system?

the inbox of one of my email addys got totally spammed while I was away for the summer -- we're talking thousands of emails -- and I just want to get rid of it all and start fresh. when I try to empty my inbox it says there is an error; when I try to "check all" to delete, it tells me there are too many emails to select.
do I really have to go through my inbox and check off each individual email?? I mean, that is ridiculous.
yahoo mail has a feature that lets you check every email that is visible on the page -- it doesn't select every single piece of email in your inbox, and it has several other features that make it much easier to display and delete specifically what you want. also, yahoo has no trouble deleting thousands of messages at a time.
aol is a huge, rich company just like yahoo -- I think they can afford greater capabilities for their website. Maybe they should stop thinking about the looks and design every time they upgrade and concentrate on FUNCTION.
rant over. thank you.

Quotes of the Moment
almostxalways: i am so cold almostxalways: i want to set my feet on fire to warm them
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. ~ George Bernard Shaw

According to Astrology.com's past life reading, I was "part of the once mighty Mongolian people of the ancient Gobi desert, or among the culturally advanced Chinese. From such lifetimes as these, [I] have the ability to perform what is expected of [me] and to do what is necessary without being held back by [my] feelings or by considerations of a personal nature. This is a strength [I] inherited from one or more past lives in these remote Asian cultures, whose people shared this self-denying trait"
and Specifically, I was "a young Chinese woman who gave birth to many children, ran a large household and pleased the master of the house. I may have done all this while quietly enduring the agony of brutally bound feet which was once a rather cultural requirement of the true ladies of ancient China."

Dear debra lynn, Here is your horoscope for Sunday, October 29:
Altruism is the name of the game, especially where you're concerned. Why not get involved in a watery cause? Cleaning up the oceans -- or even a local lake -- is just the kind of project you can sink your teeth into.

How did I get a 36-icon limit? It used to be 15, and I'm not paying more now than I was before. Did someone give me an anonymous gift? If so, thank you, whoever you are! And if it's just a glitch... well, Happy Rosh Hashana to me :-)
